I learned recently that Zane Grey's "Riders of the Purple Sage", which I'd vaguely heard of as a pioneering Western but have never actually read, also has a plot involving Danites and a young woman fleeing an unwanted Mormon marriage.

I found this out through Kim Newman's new book, which is a collection of short stories featuring Professor Moriarty and Colonel Moran having adventures that echo the famous milestones in Holmes's career - chapter one has them forming their partnership, and shortly thereafter getting tangled up with Grey's Mormons. (All the stories are crossovers - the title story's "The Hound of the the D'Urbervilles".) It's an interesting book; the last chapter, "The Problem of the Final Adventure", has an intriguing take on what really went down at the Reichenbach Falls.
