Pleased the film’s won something as I enjoyed it. Been a SH fan since I was about 12 and read ‘Sign of Four’, also the first
‘grown up’ book I ever read. Personally I Mr Holmes the same way I treat James Bond. There are three versions: the original stories by the character’s creator; the film versions; everything else including fanfic, pastiches official sanctioned sequels etc. I am darkly suspicious of the last category (just don’t get me started on Sebastian ‘literary writer’ Faulk’s abomination with JB) and have never really enjoyed the Holmes ones with the possible exception of Michael Chabon’s ‘The Final Solution’ which I found rather touching. The Ritchie film was good fun and never really betrayed Holmes as a character while providing the best Watson since David Burke. Thank you for this site and the work you’re doing and also for your PTSD article on Lord Peter Wimsey (the only other great detective in my humble opinion) on Tor.com.
You know that a conjurer gets no credit when once he has explained his trick; and if I show you too much of my method of working, you will come to the conclusion that I am a very ordinary individual after all. (STUD)
Yep, congratulations on the Golden Globe! I loved that he quoted Holmes in his speech as well.
